I'm really happy with the surface work on this piece. All the stitching (original hand quilting, machine quilting and large-stitch quilting with perle cotton) worked well together; the 6-pointed star pattern is evident but not dominant due to the indigo dye job. Frayed spots are overstitched for strength. Then, there's paint. And machine-embroidered grasses. And applied WalMart "glitz" chain, which comes in 1" width and can be cut to desired size.
I also used larger brass chain from the hardware store. There's so much neat stuff in a hardware store! I'm trying to figure out how to use some of it. Washers, grommets, nuts--the possibilities are endless, though sometimes heavy.
Anyway, Mae will be exhibited at ARTS in Fayetteville in December. After that, we'll see.
Also, I have more Mae photos and an idea for another piece based on some Goodwill merchandise I bought in Denver. Time to go cut up stuff now.
