Weather seems to be an overwhelming concern this summer--wild heat in the west, lots of rain here (every day for weeks). Forest fires, floods in Europe. Maybe people will come to consensus about climate change and global warming--probably not in Texas, though.
I'm looking forward to a short trip to Paducah in September to see the opening of Primal Forces: Earth at the National Quilt Museum. "Flyover 8: Pathways" will be there, in excellent company as with all of SAQA's shows. In the meantime, I am preparing for a solo show at the ARTS gallery in Fayetteville, TX in October. I have exhibited there before; it's a nonprofit organization that provides after school art classes for kids, art camps in the summer, and ongoing showings of art professionals in the area. Last week they featured sculptor Larry Schueckler, whose beautiful bronzes filled the gallery. His talk, "Do Artists Go to Heaven?" was personal, informative, very well-received by an entranced audience.
I have begun work on "Flyover 11: Pacific Gyre", which deals with the accumulating garbage patch in the ocean. It's larger than I have worked with before--but after all, this is the OCEAN, so it couldn't be small. Display may be problematic; we'll see what happens.
This will be part of my solo show at ARTS in Fayetteville TX, "Flyover Season: A Story of Life, Land & Change". Opening is October 23, 2021, 5-7 pm. The show will be up until December 4.
