Then, yesterday, I received word that "Need Rain" was accepted for the Texas Museum of Fiber Arts annual show. There's a photo of this piece in the May 16, 20ll posting, if you want to scroll down and look. The show will be in Austin TX Oct. 18-Nov 18, 2011 at One Congress Plaza, 111 Congress Avenue. The theme this year was "Texas by the Yarn or Yard--Texas a Fabrication." So, really anything Texas in fiber, and the list of accepted works ranges from bluebonnets to stingray migration to wildfires. The TMFA doesn't have a gallery or collection of its own, but puts on this show each year and gets a lot of traffic. I'm delighted to exhibit here again. If you're in the area, try to see it.
On Saturday I delivered "It's All Good," the creation piece, to First Christian Church here in Huntsville for their art show based on the seven days of creation. (You can see photos of this in the July postings and in the New Work gallery). Did not get a chance to see many of the works, as the artists were coming in one by one and signing paperwork, and we needed to get out of the way. The exhibit will be hung this week, and will open on Sunday 10/9. It's a local exhibit with no formal opening program or anything, no awards--just an opportunity to make work on the designated theme and see what other artists have done. I did enjoy getting the piece out of the closet and giving it a chance to shine. It will be up until January.
