And so it came to pass, when I returned from India, that Priscilla joined my family. She's very loveable and has beautiful markings. She's been here about ten days now, eating and drinking well and pooping mightily. Smudge isn't altogether happy about the interloper; there's a fair amount of hissing and growling, but no attempt to hurt Priscilla. They will work it out. She will never be able to survive outdoors and seems satisfied, no efforts to escape so far. They have both been very interested in the Christmas tree, particularly drinking out of the tree stand (there are no additives in the water so it won't hurt them). As I get started on some new fiber projects, we'll see whether she bats spools around the studio.
I've mentioned my old cat, Smudge, from time to time. Smudge is a healthy 14 year old indoor cat; I've thought about getting her a companion for several. years but never acted on the impulse. My daughter in law, Kristi, is a cat rescuer (and Eagle Lake has more than its share of feral cats), so I suppose it was inevitable that one day I would end up with one of her proteges, We considered several candidates--"this one's too big for Smudge," "That one's too dominant," "Oh, I can't give up that baby kitten," etc. And then, finally, there was Priscilla--a sad case--who had been abused, acid poured on one eye, a non-healing neck wound, terrified of people--just a mess. Kristi rescued her, took her to the vet, had her damaged eye removed, her wound treated, arranged for spaying, fed and loved her. And Priscilla learned to purr again. So for those who wanted some pictures of India, here I am at the Hawa Mahal, enjoying the lovely marble arches. And here's Catherine, making friends with a young elephant. There will be more photos later, maybe even some of the two kitties. For now, the tree is up and decorated, furniture is moved to accommodate the carpet cleaner who comes tomorrow, and I'm debating whether to make some Christmas cookies. The trouble is, I'll eat them if they're in the house. Such a dilemma!
