There were lots of nice comments about the exhibit and my work. Most of the works were paintings, but there were a number of small sculptures (one took a cash prize), an interesting trio of shadow-boxed assemblages of curled plastic strips (one took second prize), and some wonderful photographs. The first prize photograph was of complex fibers! So fiber had its own presence in this art exhibition. Friend Barbara took a couple of photos of me and the jurist, but they're a bit fuzzy so I'll avoid posting right now. Time for more mundane things--grating carrots for a salad. It's good to come down to earth.
In the last two days I've attended two opening receptions at the Live Oak Arts Center in nearby Columbus. Friday night was the opening of a retrospective of David Adickes' paintings and sale of a new book about his work, all downstairs in the main gallery. Saturday was the official opening of the Members Juried Art Show. My piece, "Gave Up My Woolens When I Moved to This Flat Land," was the only fiber entry, very nicely displayed with good lighting in the upstairs gallery. I was honored to receive an Honorable Mention from Jurist Elizabeth Kozlowski! This is the first time any of my work has received special notice--maybe not earthshaking in a greater context, but very meaningful to me.
