I've received several invitations to join fiber art groups and I'm ruminating about it. Networking is great, everybody who discusses "getting your work out there" emphasizes it. Provides access to more shows and exhibitions. All positive. However, every such effort takes time away from making art, and that's where the energy is for me. Also, many of these groups are looking for organizing talent and experience. I do have some of that, therefore I recognize how time and energy consuming it can be. I've sort of promised myself no heavy commitments for the first year of retirement, then I'll be in a better position to decide.
Sewing like mad, getting stoles ready for the Diocesan Convention next weekend. Also completed one commissioned stole for a friend. I'll put the newest ones on the website. Here's a photo of the work table environment for those who want a look. Temperatures here have been below freezing for several days, with black ice yesterday and many auto accidents. We had planned to attend an art opening, but apparently it was canceled--no answer at the art center when I called. And we had dinner reservations, but when we went by the restaurant the whole area had no power and all was dark. So we went to a nearby Mexican place and had shrimp, which was very good as usual. This afternoon we're driving to Round Top TX for the opening of the Copper Shade Tree Gallery's annual fiber art show. I was juried in last year, but alas not this time. But a number of my friends and members of the Studio 105 Art Quilt group did get in, so I'm eager to see the show. The opening was scheduled for last evening, but rescheduled to today because of the icy roads. Today we're supposed to have temperatures in the 50's; much nicer driving weather.
